Why join us at Violet and Rose?

Connect, soothe and grow together

Welcome to Violet and Rose, where baby massage is taught in a calm, friendly and supportive space. Our classes help parents learn simple, loving massage techniques that can become part of everyday routines — from winding down before bedtime to easing little tummies and creating special one-to-one moments with your baby.

Designed for parents and carers of babies aged 0–12 months, each session gives you time to slow down, tune in to your baby’s cues and build confidence through positive touch.

Arrival and settling in

Getting comfortable before we begin

On arrival at our class you will be welcomed by myself and shown the warmed, comfortable space. We provide a private change and settling area and ask that hands are washed or sanitised before contact. You will be offered our unscented baby massage oil or can use your own—we demonstrate how to warm a small amount in your hands. Before any touch we take a moment to check consent with you, confirm your baby’s last feed and look for any skin concerns. The instructor will suggest simple positioning (chest-to-chest, supine on a mat, supported head) and model the first breathing cues to help you and your baby settle.

Class stages explained

Clear steps from demonstration to practice

Each session follows an easy, repeatable sequence: demonstration, guided practise with one-to-one support, and a calm close. I will demonstrates each stroke on a doll so you can see positioning and hand placement. During practice we prompt slow, rhythmic breathing to mirror your baby’s tempo and reinforce calm. Guidance focuses on gentle pressure, avoiding the fontanelle and supporting the neck. We encourage continual consent checks — if your baby turns away, stiffens or cries we pause, reposition or stop, always following the baby’s lead.

Safety, consent and comfort

What we monitor throughout the class

Our baby massage classes are relaxed, baby-led and welcoming. There is no pressure for your baby to be perfectly settled — feeding, changing, cuddling and pausing are all part of the session. You will be guided step by step through gentle massage techniques and encouraged to follow your baby’s cues throughout.

Classes are also a lovely opportunity to meet other local parents, share experiences and enjoy a supportive environment where you and your baby can feel at ease.

Practical benefits for baby and parent

Why this matters beyond the session

Violet and Rose classes are designed to support bonding through intentional touch and to build parental confidence in handling and reading baby cues. Regular, gentle massage can promote calmer sleep patterns, ease mild wind discomfort and support digestion when used appropriately after feeds. For parents, the guided breathing prompts and hands-on practise increase confidence, reduce anxiety and strengthen the parent–baby attachment through skin contact and shared routine. Each attendee leaves with concise take-home notes and simple positioning reminders so you can continue safely at home.

Suitable from birth to 12 months

Whether you have a newborn or a growing, wriggly baby, massage can be adapted to suit your child’s stage. For very young babies, sessions focus on short, gentle moments of positive touch. As babies grow through their first year, massage can become part of playtime, bedtime or a calming daily routine.

A calm start for you both

At Violet and Rose, we believe baby massage is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about connection, comfort and learning to notice what your baby enjoys. Our classes give you practical skills you can use at home, alongside the confidence to make massage your own.

Relaxation benefits both baby and parent

Research and clinical guidance link infant massage with relaxation, reduced stress and improved wellbeing.

Potential sleep benefits

Evidence has reported improvements in sleep patterns, although findings can vary between babies and studies.

N.B. The evidence is promising but still developing.

Digestive comfort

Baby massage is often used to support babies experiencing wind, constipation or colic-like discomfort.

In addition to the immediate benefits for you and your baby, research into infant massage and positive touch suggests there may also be longer-term wellbeing benefits.

  • Families may feel more connected to their local support network, helping parents feel part of a wider community during the early months.
  • Some studies have also linked baby massage with improved parent-baby interaction and reduced symptoms of postnatal depression.
  • Over time, positive touch may support children in feeling calmer, more secure and more confident in early communication, while nurturing routines can help parents respond to their baby’s needs with greater ease.

While every child and family is different, baby massage offers a gentle foundation for connection, reassurance and emotional wellbeing.
